"Mahalin Sariling Atin" Art Fest set on May 29-31

Grupo Reposo, the National Commission on Culture and the Arts (NCCA),  LRI Design Plaza, and Ricco Renzo Galleries proudly present “ MAHALIN SARILING SINING --- A Visual Art  fest ” to be held on May 29 - 31, 2009.


Grupo Reposo is composed of various business establishments located along Reposo St. (now known as Nicanor Garcia St.) from the corner of Kalayaan Ave. to Jupiter St. within Makati City. The group has worked closely with the City of Makati and Barangay Bel-Air in turning Reposo Street into the art center of the country’s Commercial Business District.  Its projects have received the blessings of Makati Mayor Jejomar Binay and the Liga ng mga Barangay Affairs Office. It has also worked in cooperation with the Alliance Francaise de Manille, the French cultural center, in hosting various art events and exhibitions.  

According to its president Eduardo Soler, “ the mission of the group is to further promote the said strip as the premier art destination of the country especially for the visual, culinary and performance arts. With the past four annual art festivals that was both successful and well-attended, this year promises to be bigger and more exciting with the various themes and events we have conceptualized.”   

The venue for “ MAHALIN SARILING SINING – A Visual Art Fest” is the LRI Design Plaza located on 210 N. Garcia St., Bel-Air, Makati City.  It is a mix-use commercial building which houses art galleries, furniture exporters’ showrooms, interior design offices, specialty restaurants, French language classrooms and fashion designers’ studios among others.  It is a design center that is one of its kinds in the whole country.  
    
Different areas inside and within the vicinity of the said building will be tapped for the three major events.

On May 29, the “ PAGALINGAN PINAY ” art exhibit will be officially opened in simple ceremonies with Mayor Jejomar Binay and Health Sec. Francisco Duque III as guests of honor. From a total of 20 young women artists who joined the competition, the three top grand winners will also be announced. The panel of judges included Cong. Juan Edgardo Angara, Health Sec. Francisco Duque III, veteran art critic Alice Guillermo, visual artists Susan Fetalvero-Roces, Phyllis Zaballero, Julie Lluch, Cid Reyes and Juvenal Sanso. Venue: Art Pavilion, 2/F LRI Design Plaza.  Exhibit runs from May 29 until June 5, 2009.

 Another event is the “ PULONG SINING.” 25 well-known contemporary modern visual artists, to name a few: RICO LASCANO, JOSE “JOEY” IBAY, BLAINE SAN LUIS, FITZ HERRERA, DEMI PADUA, FERDINAND DOCTOLERO, RAMON AND ISABEL DIAZ, CID REYES, GERRY INGCO NORLI MEIMBAN, VALERIE VALERO, JUN MARTINEZ, NUESTRO, JOCSON, JEMINA, RAMISCAL, AND MAGBANUA  representing A.R.I.A.S. ;Galerie Astra; Gallery BiG and Ricco Renzo Gallery will set up to display their works in the tents along Reposo St. from 12 noon – 8 p.m. All artworks will be on sale and the participating artists will demonstrate and discuss their works on the spot and in front of a wide audience, with the theme “San Patungo ang Ating Sining?”  or “Where is Philippine Visual Arts Headed ?”  Guests are welcome to talk and get to know the artist on a free wheeling informal set-up. Absolutely free!
Alliance Francaise de Manille will hold its own version of “PULONG” on French Art and present French movies free of charge on May 30 & 31, in its auditorium.

The third major event “ ALAMIN MO! ” is a series of free lectures, seminars, and workshops relating to art history, art appreciation, and art drawing for kids to be conducted by experts in their respective fields. Venue: Ricco Renzo Gallery’s Conference Room. The schedule of activities is as follows:

May 30 (SATURDAY): “ Masaya Mag Pinta I ” (10-11:30 a.m.) -- Kids Art Workshop open to public and private school children ages 5 to 8 years old, to be conducted by Maya Ladyong from My Little Art Place. (max. of 24 participants); “ Masaya Mag Pinta II ” (3-4 p.m.) -- Kids art workshop open to children ages 9 to 12 years old, to be conducted by Samantha Lorenzo of Village Art Gallery. (max. of 24 participants); and “ Ating Sining I ” (5:00 - 7 p.m.) --  Contemporary and Modern Art Appreciation seminar to be conducted by veteran art critic Cid Reyes.  (Max. of 40 participants). A “must” for entrepreneurs, professionals, budding art collectors or art enthusiasts aimed at educating about  art appreciation and investment.

May 31 (SUNDAY): “ Ang Talino ni Federico Aguilar-Alcuaz ” (2:00 - 4 p.m.)  -  Art  Analysis and Appreciation seminar focusing on the works of world renowned Filipino artist Federico Aguilar-Alcuaz to be hosted by his son Christian Aguilar.  (Max. of 40 participants).  An A-1 event for artists, art critics, art writers, art students. Entrance is FREE!!!

A Chef’s Tent featuring five (5) guest chefs per day namely: ELY ALBA, ZIGGY SEGUNIAL, CLAIRE ESTRELLA, SHERYL PINEDA, AND HASSET GO will also be put up in front of the building to prepare dishes from their special recipe for those who love good food. For those who love treasure finds and bargains, specialty booths will also be set up.
