Public Speaker Training Tips - Get Over Your Fears of Public Speaking
Speaker training can help a great deal when it comes to public speaking fears. Why is it that some people would rather die than have to speak in public? Is it the fear of not being understood? Perhaps it's the fear of making a mistake and being humiliated? Or does it have to do with being introverted and simply not wanting to talk to people? Where ever that fear comes from there are many ways which you can combat your fears of public speaking. Here are some great speaker training tips to get you started.
Choose a topic which you are passionate about. I know this may sound obvious, but the fact is some people choose topics they aren't familiar with. No wonder they get nervous when they have to speak about something they are not truly interested in. By picking a topic that you are passionate about, you will be more inclined to share your knowledge for the simple fact that you love what you are talking about. This in turn will also rub off on your audience. If your audience senses your passion, they are much more likely to be engaged by you, holding on to your every word. This in turn will rub back off on you, because you will see that your audience is engaged and interested and this can help to boost your confidence and give you the courage to keep speaking.
Prepare your speech ahead of time using notes with keywords and talking points. Your speech should sound fluid, and not rehearsed or like a recording. Practicing with trigger keywords can help your speech flow because you are talking about an idea instead of memorizing word for word what you will say. Speaking about an idea will actually be easier than having to memorize something, and will help ease your worries as you don't have to worry about forgetting what you memorized.
One of the greatest speaker training tips is to not rush your speech. Even if your speech has to stick to a strict time limit, rushing can actually ad to your anxiety and fears. Take your time with what it is you're going to say. If you get nervous or feel like you have got lost in your speech, pause and take a moment to gather yourself. It's most likely that only you will know that you may have left something out, and pausing gives your audience time to soak in what you've said. In fact small moments of silence within a speech can be very effective at producing emotion, which is something you want to do, it helps your audience connect with you and what you are saying.
A final great tip to help you get over your fears of public speaking is to rehearse your speech in front of a camera. The camera will act as your audience, and recording your speech will help you a great deal. Reviewing your speech will help you see what you liked, or what you thought might need some improvement. Make the proper adjustments and keep recording your speech. After repeating the process several times, speaking may almost seem like second nature, and your nerves may have calmed substantially. This tip can be very effective in conditioning yourself for the actual speech.
Public speaking doesn't have to be your worst nightmare. If you are passionate about the topic you are speaking about, and rehearse and follow some of these tips you're nerves will calm substantially. Practice doesn't necessarily make perfect, but it can definitely ease your fears, especially over time.
